Dr Alexia Casale is an author, script consultant, and Course Director of the prestigious MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University.
Her debut novel, The Bone Dragon, was shortlisted for the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize and the Jugendliteraturpreis. It was also a Book of the Year for the Financial Times and Independent, as well as being longlisted for the Branford Boase. Her second novel, House of Windows, is a ‘Reading Well for Young People: Shelf-help’ title, available in most public libraries to support young people’s mental health. Alexia is also the Director of YAShot, a not-for-profit organisation offering free author visits for schools and libraries and providing innovative training opportunities for young people seeking careers in the Arts.
After studying psychology then educational technology at Cambridge University, she moved to New York to work on a Broadway musical before returning to the UK for a PhD and teaching qualification. In between, she worked as a West End script consultant and dramaturg, box-office manager for a music festival, and executive editor of a human rights journal. She loves cats, dragons, glass animals, cooking, and medieval sleeves. Her ideal fashion accessory is a scythe.
Alexia’s next YA novel, SING IF YOU CAN’T DANCE was published by Faber in July 2023 and her adult debut, THE BEST WAY TO BURY YOUR HUSBAND published by Viking UK/Pam Dorman US in 2024.
